Are you actually helping a charity by donating money?
Charity. But what does that mean? Giving money? In my opinion not necessarily. There are so many more things needed to help a cause other than just money. What does all the money get you if nobody is ready to invest their time into the charity?
Many charity organizations, for example Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, are wanting to make the public more aware of something they support, in this case they want to spread the word about what Parkinson’s is and how it affects the human body as well as funding research. It is close to impossible to do that without having people that are willing to give up their time for the cause and to invest more than just money.
Don’t get me wrong at this point, I do believe that the money that is given to the charities is highly beneficial and can change someone’s life and that shouldn’t be stopped. However, there is more to it than just money. Investing time into something as honorable as wanting to improve someone else’s life is very valuable and can often help even more than the money you could potentially be giving to the organization.
In conclusion, the next time you want to stand up and help for someone or something think about whether money or time is the more helpful thing in this scenario. Do some research, raise awareness, get the word out or maybe even get involved in direct service. It’s your choice and every single thing no matter how little it might be helps!
