How Your Phone Might Be Ruining Your Life
Social Media has slowly crawled its way into our everyday life and most of us seem to be nearly addicted to it. There are a lot of good things that come out of the new technology that we use daily these day but sadly there are also a lot of negative aspects to it that some of us might not be aware of yet.
Social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr have made it possible for us to stay in touch with relatives, friends and people who live further away and that we might have lost contact with without these networks. However there are more than just the obvious negative aspects to it. Sadly these new networks have also been linked to teen depression and mental health issues especially at a young age.
On these networks we always see the “perfect person” with a “perfect life” and a “perfect body” but often all we see is acted out and made to look perfect when in reality it isn't’. But young girls tend to overlook these things. They then beat themselves up for not looking the way that person looks or the way the person lives. This can have very dangerous effects on these teens and is one of the reasons why every tenth child between the ages of 5-16 are struggling with mental health issues. However, it can also be caused by the mean comments we often see online which seem to get meaner and more common these days. Just because you are sitting in front of a screen and aren’t talking to an actual person doesn’t mean that it won’t affect them. We often seem to forget that the person typing is a real life persona and that it won’t hurt any less than saying it straight to their face.
But these problems can be solved and social media is not to blame fully; the people causing the harm are the ones typing and the ones in front of the screen. We are causing so much pain to each other without wanting to and without realising how much it affects the other person. We are the ones who can do something against this and not the social media networks. Put a stop to the mean comments on social media networks. Think about if what you see is real or just made to look perfect and most importantly do not let others tell you who you are and finally stop comparing yourself to others. If you take one thing away from this post please let it be this: Be responsible to yourself and others.
