Death of a Bachelor - My Review
Music is a very important part of my life which is one of the reasons you can often find me listening to music whilst doing school work, sitting in the car or simply brushing my teeth. In my opinion it is not a catchy tune that makes a good song but rather that you can relate to the song itself; not only the lyrics but to the mood and the vibe the song has. The style and genre I generally
listen to also has to do with that opinion. My favourite genre therefore is punk rock, pop rock and alternative because I find that in this genre the songs often are very truthful and mean a lot to the artist itself which I find is also very significant. If you don't know what that style is, firstly you are missing out, secondly bands such as Green Day, Blink - 182, Panic! At The Disco, Nirvana, Fall Out Boy, etc. are examples for this genre.
At the moment I've especially enjoyed listening to Panic! At The Disco since they just released their new album ‘Death of A Bachelor’ recently. On the album there are 11 tracks and there is quite a variety in speed, sound and feel in the album which I particularly enjoy because it makes you get bored of it slower. The album starts with the pre-released song called 'Victorious' which is very upbeat and one of the quicker songs on the album. I find that the lyrics in this song are not as powerful as they are in other songs on the album but it is a fun song to listen to and sets the mood of the album quite well in my opinion. The second track on the album is also one of the faster songs called 'Don't threaten me with a Good Time'. I think this is an amazing song which will immediately boost your mood although the lyrics are not that meaningful, I still truly enjoy listening to it. 'Hallelujah' is the name of the next sing on the album which I love and might be one of my favourites on the album. This song is about owning up to your mistakes and accepting your past rather than denying it. This is an important message especially for young people since we all make mistakes sometimes and most of us have problems admitting them. When I first listened to the album I almost immediately noticed that there was this slight storyline to it especially at this point. Urie starts off by singing about a night out with friends in 'Victorious', waking up after such a party in the next track and then standing to your mistakes. This makes the album even better in my opinion since this is a very hard thing to do whilst writing music and displays his talent even more. The fourth track on the album is called 'Emperor's New Clothes' for which there also is a music video that suggests that this song is a continuation of a previous song 'This is Gospel'. A part of the video is seen above. I really like the feel and the sound of this song since I do prefer faster and songs that are a bit more punk-rock rather than slow. However, the next song on the album is one of the slower ones and surprisingly one of my favourites; 'Death of a Bachelor'. The lyrics in this song are just simply beautiful and Brendon Urie's vocals are as well.
Although this is a slow song I find it fits into the album very well and does not make the album any slower or any less upbeat. The song is about Urie's marriage and his life with his wife Sarah which I find this song portrays very well. The music video of the song is linked to the left in case you are interested in watching it. This next song is my favourite song from the album and the song I find myself listening to the most often. It's called 'Crazy = Genius' and is one of the songs that make you smile almost immediately and that you just want to start dancing to. This is such a catchy song and I cannot stop listening to it. The next song is called 'LA Devotee' which is mainly about the stereotypical girl living in LA but in my opinion the underlying message in this song also is that no matter what you shouldn't change who you are. I love this message and how everyone interprets the song a bit differently. Track number eight on the album is a celebration song called 'Golden Days' in which Urie celebrates the time that has passed and highlights the importance of seizing the moment. The next track in the album is called 'The Good, The Bad and The Dirty' which I love because of the beat, the melody and just the general feel of the song. The second last song in the album is 'House of Memories' which I really like because of the message and the melody of the song since it is not very conventional and nothing like anything I have ever heard in this genre. According to me, the song is about not realising what you have in a person until they're gone and all you can hope for is that they will remember you which I find a strong and truly inspiring message. Lastly, the 11th song of the album is called 'Impossible Year'. I have to admit that when i listened to it for the first few times I did not necessarily like it because as I stated earlier I do not really like slow songs but the more I listen to it the more I realised the meaning and the beauty of this song. It sounds completely different to the rest of the album and has a different topic. I would describe it as a rather sad song since it is about losing a beloved one and the tough time that comes after such a tragic event. However, the way it is written is beautiful and makes it into a very unique and special song.
In conclusion, if you like bands such as the 1975, Fall Out Boy, the Alternative and the Pop-Rock genre I would recommend that you listen to this album. This album covers a variety of tastes for everyone for example for people who like upbeat and fast songs but also for people who prefer to listen to slower songs with a lot of meaning. Generally, I think Brendon Urie did an outstanding job with this album and it represents his passion for music and song writing very well.
